Just checking in to see how you all are doing. I hope everyone had a Blessed Samahin and Dwali, and that you are finding yourselves prospering in the New Year.
I've just finished reading, and I've spoken about this on another thread, "Progressive Witchcraft" by Farrar and Bone. It's an eye-opening read if you're finding yourself stuck in a rut in your practice. They emphasize LIVING breathing Witchcraft traditions, diety-based, and non-reconstructive. Their emphasis is on the here-and-now and not in the past (unless the history of modern Wicca is concerned).
I'm curious: how many have read that book? And if so, what is your opinion of it? Any thoughts on the future of Paganism/Wicca?

Re: Checking in...
Thu, November 9, 2006 - 8:49 AMWell, I had an inkling that it would be good but I have so many books that are just repeats of other ones that I had stopped buying anymore Wiccan books for a while. Been helping fill out my library with even MORE books on Hinduism - I sold so many off when I was in dire financial straights and had to sell anything not nailed down to make ends meet (things are much better now). I'm still kicking myself at some of the stuff that I let go! But I keep eyeing PW whenever I'm at the store, and so now I will pick-up a copy to be sure.
Also, if you've read "Elements of Ritual" by Deborah Lipp - it's quite an amazing study of the metaphysics behind Wiccan ritual. I've been practicing for 10 years and have trained with Alexandrians, among others, but not until I read that book did I truely GET some aspects of the ritual. Weird, eh? Anyway, not only should it be required reading for most, but she also addresses the use of Hindu deities into Wiccan ritual, which will be helpful for some still struggling to find a way to blend traditions. It's not the FOCUS of the text, but it is included throughout.
Thanks for the tip about PW!
